We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Planning Appeals Technician to join our Planning Enforcement team within Development Management. This is a varied and rewarding role where you’ll provide essential administrative support to the Appeals Officer, helping the Council effectively manage and defend planning appeals. You’ll play a key part in registering and coordinating appeals, consulting with stakeholders, and ensuring all information is submitted accurately and on time using the CAPS system.
Beyond appeals, this role offers real community impact. You will assist the Section 106 officer to record, monitor and manage Section 106 and Section 111 planning agreements, helping to secure and deliver planning gains such as affordable housing, education funding and recreational facilities. You’ll liaise with consultees to ensure benefits are delivered as intended, complete Land Charges searches, maintain performance statistics, and support the wider Planning Enforcement service. Your work will directly contribute to positive outcomes for residents and the local area.
We are looking for someone with excellent customer service and communication skills, who is confident dealing with public enquiries, stakeholders and local government bodies. You will be comfortable working independently within an office environment, managing your own workload to meet deadlines and service targets, while also working collaboratively with colleagues. A strong administrative background, attention to detail, and a professional, discreet approach are key to succeeding in this role.
You will need
• A minimum of 5 qualifications equivalent to NVQ level 2 or GCSE at Grade C/4 or above, must include Maths and English
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Competent in using a range of technology and software packages, including Microsoft and Google
• Maintain accurate and up to date records
• Ability to build customer relationships
• The ability to be courteous, tactful and diplomatic when interacting with customers, colleagues and stakeholders
• To demonstrates a commitment to attending and successfully completing relevant apprenticeship training
